BB Coke grabbed their second silverware of the 2018-2019 High School rugby league season when they defeated a gallant Campion College 14-0 in the National U19 9’s Tournament hosted at their school on Friday December 1.
Eight schools with over 100 players participated in the tournament that was split into 2 groups. Group A saw BB Coke and Kingston College progress to the semifinals whilst Spanish Town High and Old Harbour were eliminated. In Group B, St. Catherine High topped, with The Cedar Grove Academy coming second. Calabar and Old Harbour high, the victims of the group stage.
BB Coke managed to a hard fought 12-8 victory in their semis against a tough Cedar Grove outfit, whilst Campion upset St Catherine in the second semis 12-0.
In the finals, BB Coke proved too strong for their opponents and strong running from powerful back Jowayne Forbes saw them cruise to a comfortable 14-0 win to claim their first ever National U19 9s title. The 9s crown goes on top of the National 13-aside title the school won a few days before .
Director of Rugby Romeo Monteith commented;
“Kamar Findlay and his team of organizers executed another well run National U19 9s tournament. All the schools enjoyed their day and high quality rugby league was played. The match officiating team worked real hard and hundreds of students from Bb Coke came out and watched the games throughout the day. BB Coke went unbeaten over 5 games and were heads and shoulders above the other teams today. Now all the schools get to go back to the drawing board and prepare for an exciting U14 and U16 season that will start the end of January.”
